gildaGilda Haas is the Executive Director of Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE).  Her project goal is to shift the debate about how to address economic inequality, which she will accomplish by creating popular education materials utilizing web 2.0 systems to explain and engage people in understanding the root economic causes of current urban problems – such as housing crisis, finance, employment, and land use – so they can make informed decisions about solutions.

elwoodElwood Hopkins is the Managing Director of Emerging Markets, Inc., which works with major industries in Los Angeles to familiarize them with low-income neighborhoods, overcome their avoidance of doing business there, and partner with communities productively.  He will use this approach, which has been successful with mainstream financial services, to try to locate supermarkets in low-income neighborhoods.

coraCora Mirikitani is the President and CEO of the Center for Cultural Innovation, a training and financial services incubator serving individual artists.  For her project, she will investigate new donor development streams that can better support the work, and increase available resources, for individual artists in Los Angeles.

aaronAaron Paley is the President of Community Arts Resources (CARS), which produces festivals and concerts and provides expertise on the role of arts and culture in urban settings.   He will research and explore the concept of public space --  its form and use – and develop new enduring projects for Los Angeles that encourage human interaction and civic life.

alexiaAlexia Salvatierra is the Executive Director of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) of California, where she organizes religious leaders and congregations to join low-wage workers in their struggle for economic justice and human rights.  She will research faith-rooted organizing models, create an integrated model for the 21st century, work with young religious activists to test and refine this model to address economic inequities in California, and disseminate their methods nationally.

Alexia's Stanton Summary

lisaLisa Watson is the Executive Director of the Downtown Women’s Center, which provides permanent supportive housing and other services for women who would otherwise be homeless.  In 2010, DWC will move into a larger facility on Skid Row that includes a commercial space.  Her project will explore the best options for using co-located commercial space as a funding source for nonprofit supportive housing organizations.
